The Motor Catamaran Athala II is 100% owned by Haugan Cruises. What’s more we don’t have expensive offices and retail premises in North America or Europe. By basing our operations in Ecuador and selling direct we can offer all our customers a top quality cruise at extremely competitive prices. 

Conservation
We care for the world we live in and we support conservation. We are always seeking to operate in a more environmentally friendly manner. Wherever possible we source from suppliers which have proven green credentials for example we use biodegrable AVEDA bathroom products on board. We work closely with the Galapagos National Park and always ensure we meet or exceed the Park’s regulations.

Carbon Offset
We work closely with CanopyCo to carbon offset all the new cruises that we offer on Athala. CanopyCo is an Ecuadorian based organization managed by local and European professionals dedicated to reforesting Ecuador’s native forests for the benefit of the climate, the local community and, of course, Ecuador’s phenomenal flora and fauna.

Along with CanopyCo, we have carefully calculated all the emissions our operation generates. Our entire operation has been included from the fuel used by the engines on board the catamaran to the bus rides our staff take to work. CanopyCo has worked out how many trees we need to plant to absorb the carbon dioxide emissions using internationally recognized methods. Rest assured that from the moment you arrive in the Galapagos Islands to the moment you leave, the impact of your carbon footprint will be a net zero.

Supporting the Local Community
We support the local community in many ways. Local people from Galapagos own a large portion of the company and hold key operational positions in Haugan Cruises. Where ever possible we will source locally. A significant proportion of our supplies come from the local community. The entire crew and guide are residents of the Galapagos Islands.

Simón Bolívar Volunteer Program
Haugan Cruises in conjunction with The Columbus Travel group is the main supporter of the Simón Bolívar Volunteer Program. The volunteer program helps find and place volunteers into worthy projects throughout Ecuador. The charitable projects are varied and include: health programs, child welfare, environmental projects, animal welfare and agricultural education. The Columbus Travel group provides all administrative support and pays for all their office related and travel expenses (office rental, office equipment, website, airport transfers for volunteers, office supplies, telephone etc. etc.).
